Who We Are

At G-Squad Lax, we strongly believe in giving back to the game that has given so much to each of us! The staff at GSL is comprised of some of the brightest and most successful goalies to have played in the state of Michigan. Each student at GSL will build personal relationships with members of our staff and we are very proud to introduce these coaches and mentor/trainers to you!

All staff members are active members of US Lacrosse and our coaches have passed a US Lacrosse NCSI Background Screening.  You can learn more about the NCSI screening here.

Rom Elwell - Head Coach / GSL Founder-Owner

Rom has over eight years of experience coaching lacrosse goalies at the middle school, high school and collegiate levels.

He began his lacrosse coaching career in 2009 with a desire to see lacrosse goalies have the same level of coaching as field players and joined the Rockford-area middle school lacrosse program for three seasons.

Next, he joined the successful Rockford High School Varsity Women's Lacrosse program in 2013 and spent four seasons with the Lady Rams, who won the MHSAA D1 State Championship each season (2013-16).

Next, Rom worked as the goalie coach for the 2016 National Champion (NAIA & NWLL) Davenport University Women's Lacrosse program during the 2016, 2017 seasons.  Additionally, Rom was the first Goalie Coach for Mitten Select, a West Michigan-based summer lacrosse club in 2016 and 2017.

Currently, Rom is working with Michigan State Women's Lacrosse when not hiking/camping with his fam.

Briana "Bri" Houle - Assistant Coach

"Bri is the complete player. She has an impeccable work ethic and exemplifies the term 'coachable'.  In the four years I have worked with her, Bri has exhibited not only the best traits of a student-athlete, but also a 'team-first' mentality. Her quiet demeanor belies a fierce passion and competitiveness to constantly perform at her best" - Rom Elwell

Bri completed her high school career in 2016 after winning back-to-back-to-back Michigan D1 State Championships while playing for Rockford High School! In addition to being a student-athlete while attending RHS, Bri also worked actively in the Athletic Department as a student athletic trainer.  During her high school summer months Bri played for local club Rapid Lax.

Bri is currently attending Michigan State University and will take the field as one of the Spartans' netminders beginning in 2017!
